Ulysses has lead responsibility for planning and implementation of The Bell Group, Inc.’s (TBG) fund development initiatives and program operations. Widely respected in the field of philanthropy, Bell has 35 plus years of domestic and international experiences as an executive manager and fundraising professional. Ulysses was senior vice president for advancement and external relations at three southeastern universities (Stillman, Bennett, Elizabeth City State). Bell was faculty chair of Commercial Training at Nkumbi International College in Zambia, Africa.
The NC Triad Chapter, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), selected Ulysses as 2002 Fundraiser of the Year. The J. Richard Taft Organization contracted Bell in 2003 as a participating consultant in writing, Fundraising Plan for the National Museum for African American History and Culture, “Report to the President and to the Congress - THE TIME HAS COME.” The Washington, DC based museum is the premier museum of African American history and culture in the world.
Ulysses has managed the planning and implementation of several university-based capital campaign with goals of $25 million, $35 million and $50 million. Bell has been principal consultant to church capital campaigns with funding goals of $1 million, $5 million, and $14 million. Bell has developed and presented fundraising modules to more than 340 pastoral leaders associated with the Institute for Church Administration and Management (ICAM) in Atlanta. Ulysses served for six years as a trustee and member of the investment committee to the ELCA $2.5 billion church pension fund. He is co-founder of one of North Carolina’s most successful community development corporation (CDC) in rural northeastern North Carolina.
Bell academic credentials include a J.D (North Carolina Central Univ); M.A (Columbia University); and B.S (Elizabeth City State University). Bell has a certificate in professional management (UNC-Chapel Hill Flagler School of Business). He is currently a NC licensed insurance agent, former NC real estate broker, former SEC Series 7 and Series 65 licensed investment advisor. Ulysses and his spouse, Dorothy, have resided in Cary, NC, since 2008.
